East Belgium and its people

East Belgium’s people are characterized by the affiliation with Prussia, the Netherlands, Austria, Luxemburg, or Belgium, and by various lingual and cultural influences.  Never asked for their opinion, they often had to change their nationality and endure occasionally devastating consequences, the traces of which can still be felt in today's society.  This chapter tells of a people on the border, of which much has been demanded ever since historic times, but which has kept its special identity and own dynamics to this day.
